Apparently some of them say USA and some say nothing, with rumor of some saying Japan? Please help me understand.

I was under the impression the ATACR was made in Japan.
I think the only US made nightforce is the BEAST.
You got me wondering so I looked it up. Can't add a link yet but PRB did an article in 2014 on where tactical scopes are made and their warranty.

Mine says Japan...5x25. My NXS 2.5x10 says USA.

All parts are made in the same factory in japan. Nigtforces are either assembled in the USA or put under intense QA/QC in the US. That's what you're paying for with nightforce. If it's out of any kind of it's very tigh tolerances it doesn't pass.
So the to answer your questions only two countries involved US and Japan. Japanese make all the components. The factory that's it's made in is starting to gain on the heels of European scopes.
