Had a customer send me a rifle made by another maker that just was not shooting as well as he wanted. The original rifle was chambered in 338 Lapua and used a defiance machine receiver. Told the customer we could rebuild that rifle and make it a bit more suited to his goals for the rifles use.
He also wanted a bit more HP by going with my 338 Allen Xpress. Installed new barrel and new Mcmillan stock. Turned out nice.
Customer wanted a load developed using the 265 gr Barnes LRX for general big game hunting of heavy game out to 1000 yards. Also wanted a load using the 300 gr SMK for LR target/hunting use.
The 265 gr LRX clocked 3100 fps, the 300 gr SMK 2930 fps. As you can see, these velocities were obtained using relatively short over all length to fit comfortably in the magazine of the rifle.
Tested at 890 yards and starter with the 300 gr smk which shot extremely well. Tested the Barnes LRX with no scope adjustment to compare drop between the two. The 265 gr shot just as well but point of impact was roughly 2.5 moa at that range. Two very potent loads for this rifle to cover most anything that needs to be done with this rifle!!
