Aoudad Hunt

I've killed a few with my 6.5 creedmoor.
My father had killed 30-40 with his. Pick a good bullet that hold together and send it.

I've killed a few with my 6.5 Grendel also running 97gr hammers. As for guides depends on what type of hunt you want. Backpack safari style? Many options from hill country to west Texas

Thanks for the info. I'm in great shape and wouldn't mind hiking for them if required. I wasn't sure if there was a normal hunting procedure. (ie) Safari style or backpack. I have a 30-06 and a 6.5 creed. I shoot the 6.5 better at longer distances.

Congrats on your first Aoudad hunt.

On caliber I'd use at least a 25 caliber. Shoot what you shoot's well. I'd say a 25-06 is a good minimum. I've seen them shot with 270, 30-06, 7mm mag, 300 mag...all seem to work good --use a good bullet. have shot them with everything from a 222 to a 358 Norma mag--my favorite is a 338 RCM--but probably shot the most with a 257 wby just because I have hunted with one longer. Again use a good bullet--and shoot them futher forward than you think, almost on the point of the shoulder.

Lots of good options out there for Aoudad hunts. Desert Safaris outfits a lot. Rowdy McBride has a lot of good properties leased--and outfits. Wes Mundy at double diamond outfitters shoots some good sheep every year. Also, Jim Breck Bean at high west shoots good sheep too.

I have shot my fair share --and just got through taking my son and 2 of his friends on a hunt. I'm 49 and watching those young guys crush hills and not even look tired--makes me realize the circle of life--but I'm still going to chase them for as long as I can.

Your 30-06 would be great out of the guns you own but it'd be a great exuse to get a long range magnum. Shots are 100-400 yds typically and can be across windy canyons. I ranch in west Texas and have aoudad on here, they are tough animals and we have a 270 or bigger rule. Aoudad shooter 1975 mentioned some great outfitters, some others are also bubba Glosson, Tye Vick, wildlife systems.
