Gent's,

I've been doing some load work-up for my 240 Weatherby and found an unbelievable combination with RL-26 and a 75 gr Vmax at 3700 fps.
I normally use my 257 Wby for hogs, but was thinking this would be a good dual use Coyote/Hog load. Anyone ever used the 75 Vmax on hogs?

I've used the Vmax in several calibers and they are very soft. On hogs, the coarse hair/dirt, dried mud on that thick skin, then fat and very dense muscles...it is bound to just make a nasty surface wound....fine for ISIS folk, but a hog deserves more finesse. Just my opinion, of course. Barnes "used to" make a 75gr X bullet which I shot in a 240W just fine. Try their 80gr TTSX and odds are you can find a load that shoots to the same point of impact. A vmax up the spout followed by a magazine full of 80 TTSX, good to go! :) OR, try to shoot ol porky behind the ear with the vmax and just see what happens...

I agree, Vmax would be spectacular for head shots but most likely fail miserably when placed in the normal vital zone areas.

I shot a coyote with a 75 grain v max from a 22-250 once and it was not good..
The bullet exploded on the shoulder creating a mangled surface wounded coyote.
I felt pretty bad when I saw it, stick to rodents and long range shots with those bullets
