I realize blacktail hunting is not conducive to LR shooting but I love chasing the grey ghost phx the pacific NW. Grew up learning to hunt this critter, if I don't draw a mulie tag for eastern oregon, not hurt I get to hunt blacktail. Have shot many over the years but here are pics of my best. He scored 146 7/8, 4x4 4 1/2" eye guards, 5" bases. Sorry for decapitation pics but never heard mounted until I killed my first Bull elk. Shot in 2002 #46 all time cascade blacktail. Killed with model 70 XTR 223 REM, 50gr Barnes XLC. Upper McKenzie river.

That's a stud blacktail, I am still trying to figure them out. I have two spikes to my name so far, I'd call them foot hill bucks, this year I plan to move higher in elevation and target some cascade bucks. Here is this previous year's buck.

Any buck is a good buck! I've hunted these things since I was 10. That buck was 2002. I was 31. Those don't happen every year. I'll post a pic of the generations of big blacktails. My grandpa's, 1959, is far left, mine, 2002, is middle, other 2, 1973 and 1968,are my dad's. The 4x4 from 73 scored 140 3/8 with less than 1" in total deductions. Be patient yours will come.

I hunted them for 4 or 5 years outside of Portland and Vancouver on public land. Finally got a little fork horn. All though he's small his skull lives with all my other trophy's. Would love to hunt them again someday.
