Anybody hunting with a 17 Hornet and if so what's your take on it.

Love my 17 WSM, but may step up to a 17 Hornet to get an additional 100 yards out of it. Anything further 204 territory.

I've killed everything from groundhogs to deer with mine. It's my truck gun and predator gun. I shoot mostly hornady 25 gr hollow points and a few 21 grain hammer hunters out of mine. The majority of what I've shot with it has been DRT.
I have a ruger and a savage.

I cannot thank you enough for your insight, I believe I'm sold , what's the maximum effective range on coyotes? and that's some mighty fine shooting you've done. How's ammunition availability? The Ruger looks real sweet.

The coyote on the tailgate was taken at 400 yards. It was far enuff to not hear the hit. I actually thought I missed when he took off running. But he piled up after a 40 yard dash…. The others were taken calling at shorter range, but I killed a bunch at just over 100 yards off a dead horse bait.

I have a CZ527 in 17 hornet. Serves its purpose.
Though it's definitely not for someone with custom rifle tastes. I wouldn't say it's worth another 100yds on a 17WSM. You'd probably have to go up to a 17 fireball or 17 remington for that to be true. Those little 17 bullets just get blown around too much.

CZ 527 here. Great pdog rifle to around 300yds. Trying to buy another. It's been sub-MOA with both factory 20grs and my reloads.

Bought my boys a 17 hornet and a 22 hornet. CZ 527. They are awesome. They both shot decent at 400 yards the other day and they have to aim at something above the target.

At first I thought the 22 would be the best. But after studying ballistics a little the 17 has a lot less drop. Stays super sonic past 400 and carries a lot more energy than the 22.
Get a CZ you will love it!!!
