Looking at trying the dead blow in some larger caliber stuff on soft game like deer.
Anyone played with them? I have no issues with the hunter line but as most I like to play. Thinking so what if 50 percent of the 214 .30 expels itself inside still enough shank to keep going. Might be a happy medium for guys that like more explosive bullets.

I got some for our small deer and better expansion as slower velocity but have not had a chance to shoot them yet. I loaded the HH getting ready for my elk hunt and decided to test some on deer in Florida and worked great so far to 400. I will be testing them out by summer time for sure

Thanks

Buck

I've got the 154 loaded in a 280 AI. It's running 3160 FPS out of a 24" IBI. No on game experience with it yet. Thought it would make for a good tree stand load for whitetail.

That's what I'm thinking. My meat hunting I shoot behind the shoulder so meat loss should be low anyway. If I need to anchor my be I do both shoulder but that always ruins some meat anyway. I'm gonna play with these this fall. Thinking they will be better for deer and smaller stuff and the load is the same so elk and large game use the standard version.

I got to thinking about this today and decided to go try some out but no break. I have a feeder set up for 500 and 600 yrd shots but nothing legal showed up

Thanks

I have used them on one large VA doe. First shot was steeply quartering and entered her hip from 214 or so yds. Second shot was a finisher entering right shoulder at 30yds. Neither shank exited. I think it would work extremely well if you could keep shots to broadside. The hip shot had a portion of the bullet penetrate forward into the left lung/rib cage but wasn't recovered.

154 absolute dead blow

I would be looking of a different bullet. Way to much bloodshot in my way of thinking. I had that kind of problem with a Nosler Partition 100gr and the box still sit on the shelve. That about 45 years ago as reminder. Now I will say the shot was about 40yds. I have done the same type of shot many time after that with none partition bullets and never had that problem with ballistic tips or Accubonds, and have put bullets from one end to the other on animals.

Honestly the "bloodshot" isn't as bad as what i've seen with berger bullets on close impacts. You can just see the huge permanent cavity left by the expansion. Once I trimmed the ragged edges of the meat there wasn't any of the "jelly" that you normally see with high velocity cup and core bullets. But I will also say that i'm going to switch to the 155 hammer once I've used all of these. Living in western virginia two holes helps with tracking.
To finish, this is not a condemnation of the bullet or the design or Steve/Brian/Hammer. I just think I will get performance more to my liking from a more conventional hammer.
