Several of us have been fallowed or out of the mountains by a pack, it's not a cool feeling and is now the #1 reason I pack a pistol and keep my rifle loaded at all times, grizz don't bother me as much as a wolf pack.

Then pick up whatever is still good from the elk and leave.
