I've got a Howa 1500 I'm building into a switch barrel rig. The rifle has sentimental value to me so I am sticking with the action. I'm wanting to run both standard and magnum bolts on this rifle. My problem is no one makes a SA mag bolt and I have been told several times that the standard bolt face can't be opened up due to the extractor. My newest crazy idea is to see if it is possible to cut down a LA mag bolt and thread the pieces back together to make a SA mag bolt. I am thinking male threads on one piece, female on the other. Reverse thread to avoid loosening on opening and using permanent thread locker. I'm no machinist or Gunsmith by any stretch of the imagination, so you guys who are more experienced than me tell me if this is possible or a terrible idea.
