local shop has an earlier loop 6.5 -20 x 40 or 50 with parralex adjustments up front. It is used and in fantastic shape. Has very large turrets with caps . I believe its a vx-3 . I may be mistaken. He is asking 500.

If it has the obj front adjustment it is quite old....more than likely a vxii.....
Why spend that much cash for a used at this guys shop when he bought it he gave way less than 450...hes just awaiting a sucker to pay him his price and make out big.....
Go buy a new model and make him eat his line of BS...
Pawn shops won't pay more than 100 for a good used Leupold...

26Reload is right. It's very old. You can probably find a demo Zeiss or Leupold equivalent for the same $$.

They never made a VXII in that power range with tall target turrets, I don't think.

Rhett....theres a first time for everything...cant be proof positive on this as of now....it is not in my possession...but i purchased mine used on a rem 700 25/06 mountain rifle(bought at a bimart store) I bought it in 2005....a new 6.5-20 then was only 450$...

Buck....i have the same model with standard turret adjustments....originals came out in 1988...
easily something sent in to have replaced....lots of them on the market...and the new glass is far superior to older models...
Older vx1 is no longer made..vx11 went to vx1, vx111 went to vx11...basically all models moved down a line as new models took over....

Only way to make a wise purchase here....get serial numbers and run a background check.....

I've got a VX3L 6.5-20x56 on my 25-06. 30mm tube w/ side parallex adj.. One of my welders that hunted w/ me down in Mexico bought a used, older Browning A bolt Medallion w/ the old VX 6.5-20x50 w/ the parallex on the objective. 1" tube and definite difference in the glass quality.
There are lots of display demos out there in all brands for very good pricing w/ higher quality glass and better magnification ranges. Just saying....80% of the scopes I've purchased were open box demos and just like new.
Just my opinion.

It's probably a fair price. New on Midway the VX-3 6.5-20x40 was going for $799 with the adj objective.
I have 2 of that exact scope. Mine are VXIII, 6.5X20X50, 30MM Tube, AO. I paid $1200.00 each BRAND NEW. I'd pay $799.00 if I needed one. I'll tell you this, I'd NEVER PART WITH MY 2 FOR $799.00! However, the last 2 I purchased are NightForce NXS 8x32x56, 30 mm Tubes. The new ones have a 34mm Tube. I'm NOT certain, but I seem to recall talk of a 60mm AO. Not sure if that was NF, or the new Leupold MARK V. Both are fine optics! Both are Pricey! If you're on a budget sir, look into, or should I say THRU, the Viper Vortex 8.5x25x50. Helluva a scope, with Illuminated Reticle, for $999.00 Brand New!

$500 sounds a little high.... but not completely out of line. I have the same VXIII 6.5-20x 40mm adj. obj. Got mine in early 90's. It's a good scope but I think I'd offer $400 or put your money into something new. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend and what features you want.
As a comparison.... after shopping around for a long time i picked up a very lightly used VXIII 4.5-14x 40mm adj. obj. with the Boone & Crocket reticle about 5 years ago for $450.
Good luck.
