AMAX or Berger VLD?

I've got both of these (168gr VLD and 162 gr AMAX) shooting pretty well out of my 7wsm. Given equal velocity, which of these is a better HUNTING bullet or are they about equal when it comes to effectively killing the animal (mule deer)? Thanks for the help!

I have used both in my 7mm rem mag at about 3060 fps. Taken game, red deer, fallow deer, tahr and pig from 358 - 638 yds and the performance has been about equal.
I would give the nod to the a-max slightly ahead of the berger based on performance but then most of the a-max shots were perfect broadside while the bergers were slightly quartering.

I couldn't get Bergers to shoot in my 308 Savage. AMax currently shoot consistently under 1/2"

Thanks guys. I need to tweek the Amax load a little more, but they both seem to be shooting pretty well. They seem to be about equal as far as killing power goes from what I've read, so I guess I'll let the rifle make the final decsion. Thanks again.

Amax if your shooting at targets.. bergers for big game all the way!
Shot a bull elk at 85 yards with 168 Amaxs in my 06 and they just exploded jacket sepertated from the core didnt penatrate past the ribs. poor guy suffered more than he should have. Bergers and Amaxs are excellent if you have the time to play around with the seating depth. found both to peform best .0015" off my gun

What load are you pushing that A-Max with ? I have a 7 mm wsm also mine is 65.5grs of Re#22 I get about 3150 out of 26" bbl.

30-06 168 Amax 2980fps 58.0 gr of IMR 4350 fedLR#210 26" barrel I was also able to get 2900 fps on the 185gr berger vld with 56.5 gr of IMR 4350

Use the Hornady 162 gr SST's instead of the Amax for hunting.
