Ackley Improved Question

Have a couple of Ackley Improved reloading questions. I am loading a 25-06 AI on a Savage action, Douglas Air Gauge XX barrel,115 grain Berger VLD's.

First is simple, can I use Large Rifle Magnum primers or should I use standard LR primers?

Second is a bet more complicated and is regarding maximum loads.

Looking at load data for a 25-06 Rem the max load for IMR 4350 is 49.4 showing 3038 fps.

Likewise the max load for R22 is 55.2 showing 3089 fps.

I find some "internet load data" from "who knows who" stating they are loading 55 grains of IMR 4350 and getting 3450 fps and another that show 59.0 of R22 at 3425 fps, each over the 25-06 Rem listed max loads by about 10%.

So my question is can one safely load a 25-06 AI at approximately 10+/-% over the stated max for the 25-06 Rem?

Stay with the standard large rifle primer and start with the listed loads
in the reloading book and work up to max loads for your rifle!!!!!

Velocity is like gas mileage someone allways gets better than anyone
else.

And most rifles get different velocitys with the same load due to barrel
condition,chamber,barrel length,throat length ETC.

So work up to the max of your rifles velocity and accuracy.

I use 9.5M's all the time in my .25-06Rem. Not sure where you got that max figure for the RL22. I have always thought 52.0 was max.
I have the following data fired from my .25-06 Sendero;
115gn Berger VLD/RL22/9.5M/OAL: 2.7730" (velocity is average of 3 shots)
50.0 = 2951 fps, .387" group
50.5 = 3004 fps, .757"
51.0 = 3044 fps, .390"
51.5 = 3062 fps, 1.0385"

117gn Sierra BTSP GameKing/RL22/9.5M/OAL: 2.7985"
51.5 = .8830"
52.0 = .4790"
52.5 = .9345"
Only chrono'd the 52.0gn load as it was the most accurate. I loaded about 45 rds for deer and velocity of three of them ran 3051/3053/3046 (average 3050fps). Pretty consistent.

115gn NBT/RL22/9.5M/2.7770"
51.0 = 2944/3005/2975(2975) @ .4075"
51.5 = 3057/3058/3073(3063) @ .8520"
52.0 = 3073/3052/3076(3067) @ .4095"
52.5 = 3094/3056/3063(3071) @ .1.3875"

I don't see any reason NOT to use magnum primers. I have used them on non-magnum cartridges for years. I have found some super accurate loads in .22-250 Rem, .243 Win and .270 Win (and .25-06) using them. Got to try different things. JohnnyK.

The max load came from Berger, just shows to go ya, you never know what the real story is on most anything in life.

Rick, I too am looking for load data for 25-06AI. I discovered that the Sierra 5th edition has load data for it. I called them and asked a nice fellow named Duane Siercks if I could buy that section as I have the fifty year anniversary edition. He said they don't do that anymore but emailed it to me. Nice folks at Sierra.
