Hi there,

Working up load for a new Savage LRH in 7mm Rem Mag. Barrel is free floated and trigger adjusted to 2.5lb.

I started with A-max 162gr 0.01" off the land, H4831SC, Federal 215M, new Remington brass. Shot 20rd so far to break in the barrel, results are not very encouraging. 3 shots group is around 1.1-1.3 MOA.

I will do more load development, but also interested to know anyone's pet load.

Thanks
Kevin

I like R22 powder in my 7mags with the 162 Amax, SST or interlock. I work up to just over 2900 to 3000fps with it, some were in between there I usulay find good accuracy. I found that lots of neck tension helps the 162 Amax and SST if not loading to the lands.

Thanks for your replies. My velocity is about 2950fps with 65.5gr of H4831SC, which doesn't fill up the case. The only three 3 shot group I got is 1.11MOA. I will work up the load to see if it gets tighter.

The only slow powder I have is H4831SC, looking forward to try other powders once the current buying frenzy is over.

Went to the range again on Sunday to finish the breakin process, and found a good load with 67.0gr H4831SC. 3 shots @ 0.24MOA, 4 shots @ 0.44MOA, velocity is 2941fps. No pressure sign other than slightly flattened primer, might try hotter load at 67.5 or 68.0gr.

My Pro chrono digital gives different readings on sunny and overcast days. The velocity this time is more trustworthy since ES and STD are in the ballpark.

I have found my rifle like the 162 amaxs at either 70 or 73.5 grains of Retumbo which is 2950 or 3250. I tried all the seating depths and a coal of 3.405 is the best with the 73.5 it's one hole at a 100 yards. I have a dead tree at 647 yards and I have been hitting a 3-4" knot where a limb was every time.

Thanks for sharing your load. I think my initial finding is in the ballpark of your 2950fps load. My COAL is 2.712" off ogive, which should be close to your 3.405 off the tip.

67.0gr H4831SC doesn't fill the case up, I would love to find a higher node like your 3250fps one. I don't mind compress the powder a bit.
