I have friend who has about 350-375 pieces of new Winchester 7mm WSM brass that's been sitting in his basement for about 8-9 years. He knows I love the WSM's and and would like to buy a rifle in 7mm wsm but can not find a Tikka in 7mm wsm. As a matter of fact all I can find are Winchester Shadows, newer model 70's, used Howa's or Savages or rifles out of my price range.

He offered to give me the brass for free, if I dont take it he is going to sell it to another friend. I can find used Tikka T3's in 300wsm very reasonably priced and was considering buying a used T3 in 300 wsm and having it re-barreled to 7mm wsm as I have a geat smith a little over two hours from my home. I also have over 1000 assorted 7mm bullets as well so i have some reason to buy another rifle in 7mm wsm.

My question is how hard is it to re-barrel a 300wsm Tikka T3 to 7mm wsm or if I must have another WSM buy a 270wsm as they are readily available in the T3 along with brass. Or do I just wait and bide my time until I stumble across a T3 or other equally good rifle in 7mm wsm.

Thanks
Art.

Not hard (to rebarrel a Tikka.)
If you can find a sweet deal on a .300 WSM (or .270 WSM), the bolt face and mag will work fine for a 7mm WSM, so that'll be simple.
You could even re-barrel your own gun if you wanted:

Keep us posted!
(EDIT: Don't see a 7mm WSM available as a chambering from Patriot Valley Arms at this time, so can't do it yourself using their products. Gunsmith can still hook you up!)

Great then I will start looking for a good deal on a T3 in 300wsm or 270wsm. Unless.....
Elkaholic,
How hard is it to get brass for a 7 Sherman max? and are you certain it will work with a bolt face sized for a 7mm or 270 wsm?
pulled up the Sherman WS and are quite intrigued by a 7 SM pushing a very heavy 7mm bullet at 3000 FPS/MV.

I keep the 7 max brass in stock and the bolt face is the same as wsm. Wevhqve built several shermans on Tikkas and they work great!

If you want to get a 300 or 270 WSM (sorry the 7MM WSM has been discontinued by Tikka) they both are available new or used on various websites. I just checked my suppliers (FFL here) the blued 300 WSM is the lowest priced. if you want a 270 WSM it is $100.00 more. I know that good rifle smiths can rebarrel easily either of the two remaining calibers to 7MM WSM. Gun Broker has a generous supply of guns in 7MM WSM and I found a Tikka or two in 7MM WSM
