A good book on the basics?

When I signed up for the site I knew that I didn't know much. After reading some posts, I now realize that I don't know anything! If you know of a good book or other resource to figure some of this stuff out, please let me know.

Just keep reading this site. Do searches on certain topics. I've learned more on here in the last couple years than I could in a lifetime of reading books. Good luck!

Moutainsheep, good find, I forgot about this. I read this a couple of years ago before I got into all this long range stuff. It is an excellent read and full of useful info, it is quite long, so make sure you don't sell yourself short, read it all and it will be worth it.
