I have a 54J in the aforementioned caliber but it is a 14" twist factory barrel, so even factory ammo will not stabilized. So I am looking at rebarreling it and have a chance to get an 8 twist barrel. My question is will that be to fast a twist rate for 160 gr bullets and under since the capacity is not there to drive heavier bullets. Thanks in advance.

For 180gr or below a 1 in 9.25 will be perfect. My 7mm Rem Mag stabilized the Berger 180gr VLD Hunting bullet just fine, it shoots it under half MOA, and also shoots the 100gr Sierra Varminter under half MOA groups.

So a barrel with a 1 in 9.25" will stabilize anything up to 180gr, this will be perfect for the barrel you want to get.

Stay safe
