7wsm reloading

Hello everyone

I am getting into the reloading game and I just got a 7 wsm.

My question is this... Do I have to have specific dies for the 7 wsm or can I use the 7 mag dies that I have.

Also if anyone has some good starting loads for me to try I'd appreciate it.

Going to be hunting deer and elk with my new savage model 11 so am looking at Berger 168 or 180 grains.

Most likely will keep shots to less than 650 yards.

you will most certainly need dies specific to the 7mm wsm and i don't have my books on hand but i will get them and post you some loads a little later on. I myself love the bergers but if you are just getting started and you are only planning on shooting 650 and in you might want to save yourself the head ache of getting the bergers to shoot properly in your gun and try something like nosler accubonds or perhaps hornady sst,s just a thought though hope i could be of some help.

This is what I received from Berger.

Load data was generated using Quick Load a 24 inch barrel a COAL (cartridge over all length) of 2.860 inches and your COAL and velocity could be a little different.
AS WITH ALL RELOADING APPROACH THE MAXIMUM LOADS WITH CAUTION AS ALL RIFLES AND RELOADING TECHNIQUES WILL BE DIFFERENT. If YOU CHANGE ANY OF YOUR COMPONENTS; THIS INCLUDES DIFFERENT POWDER LOT NUMBERS; YOU MUST REFIGURE YOUR LOADS BY STARTING WITH THE MINIMUM LOAD.

Your doing the right thing by posting questions . Asking if you need specific caliber dies tells us your a newbee . I'd go out and buy a reloading manual like Sierra or Hornady,Speer and start reading and learning. Those Berger bullets are nearly $50 bucks. I shoot a 7 wsm my experience says the Hornady SST bullet line are the easiest to develop a load. Mag Primer,Re#19 or 22 and a 139gr SST is a great place to start.

I load 11 different 7wsm's all shot great with 64-66 h1000, CCI-br2 primers, 180 vld's win brass. +.010 into the lands. 2950-2980 fps. Forster ultra dies.

Check out accurateshooter.com in their forum "big stuff 7mm......". There is a post requesting 7mm WSM load data. Several people have posted their load data. Just remember to cut back 10% from max load and work your way up watching for pressure signs.

A good load for 7WSM is:
Berger 180gr hunting VLD
Federal 215 primers
65.5 gr of H1000
Start with bullet seating depth touching the lands
Muzzle velocity +/- 2950fps

But here again, work up to this load

It's a good idea to buy reloading books, read post here and on other forums and there are a lot of good and some bad reloading video's on YouTube (Sinclair reloading videos are good).

Id start with 162 amaxs, you can get 300 for what 200 bergers cost. Win brass, 65grns H4831sc, CCI BR2s and the 162 amax at 2.975" oal. But work up from 63grns.
