my load 162 gr with 91 gr us869 coal 3.784 @3360 1/4 groups @100 and 200 checked on the new lab radar Doppler system with 31.5 and 9.25 twist barrel
That's smoking fast for the 162, be sure not to shoot it hot or your love affair with it may be short lived due to throat erosion.I'm just finished setting up my new STW. It was built by Brown Dog in Athol, ID. I'm using the 162ELDX bullets. With Magnum powder its running an honest 3300 fps. very accurate and im no where near over pressure. It has a Bartlien barrel at 28.5 inches.
This is a shooter. I can get 1/2 moa if I do my part. Im heading out for deer and antelope this weekend in Montana. This should be fun! I will not take a shot less than 400 yards. I have practiced and think Im ready for this.
This rifle is out doing a 28 Nosler a friend has. To the brotherhood of the 7stw gun)
I'm seeing that a lot lately too. Guys running way over book speeds especially with middling cartridges like the 7wsm. I'm a fan of a big boiler room and taking it easy. I've fried a few barrels just running normal loads. Heck, I'm only doing 2900 fps with a 175 eld-x in my 7rum. I'm at 3350 fps with a 140ab in my 7stw. Pretty normal numbers.Ok so I'm on the top end for my rifle with 78.5 grains H1000 getting 3187 FPS with my 7mm STW. 79 grains I get pronounced stiff bolt lift.
You folks getting 3300 FPS with the 162 ELD-X have interesting rifles or your brass will be toast after 1-2 firings lol
