I had planned on turning this STW into a 28 Nosler when the barrel was done, so I had all the components. 1+ moa and not as consistent as I would like, although the 143 Hammers did OK. One day the light went off; the STW is close to a 28 and all I needed to do was try the 195's and N570 that works so well with the 28 and maybe it'll shoot. An old thread had some charge weights so got started.
I bedded a new Manners stock, then went to the range and shot a progressive string looking for something semi good, then went back and shot the 81/81.5/82 and settled on 81.3gr.
After reading thru a stock bedding thread here on the forum I felt I needed to do the bedding again; I was feeling some stock movement when I loosened the front screw 1/3 turn. After that 2nd bedding job I went back to the range and sighted in at 200.
I then went straight to the long distance range, guessed the velocity at 3,000, and shot one at 400, then dialed to 600. I shot 1, hitting low left, adjusted and shot 3 more. I hadn't seen a 3 shot group like that at 600, ever, not even close.
I waited almost a week and went back to see if it was a fluke. Wind was not bad, about 7 from the 10/11 side. I shot the 1st, hitting at 2:00, adjusted and shot the 2nd, hitting at 3:30, adjusted again and shot my last 5 rounds.
I like it.
Nosler brass twice fired, AMP annealed every firing,
step down bushings .315/.312/.310, the fired neck is .318
.310 neck bushing leaves the unloaded neck at .3108, loaded neck is .314
195 Berger .020" off
81.3 N570
