7RUMLN!

Long Range.
If it's pinching at the case mouth you may want to trim them back a hair.

That also seems like a very light bullet for the 7RUM.

In my faster 7's I tend to get best results between 162-180gr in conventional and 150-165 with mono's.

Might also consider having the neck reamed just enough for "no turn necks".

That pinching can cause really dangerous pressures, I had the same issue with one years ago.

Details? A few years ago I wanted a fast 6.5mm. I ordered a Pierce titanium long action, a Christiansen carbon wrapped barrel, A Leupold VX-6 4-24X52, Talley aluminum rings, an MPI stock, and Trigger Tech trigger. The Trigger Tech was so new its cost was $85. I don't remember the brake brand. Unlike this new action that action was a little sticky. Anyway, the best three shot group at 100 yards was 1 1/2". I discovered the barrel was bent. I had the rifle disassembled and sold the parts.

Ben, at Hornady, named it 6.5 RUNLN. For Reminton Ultra Mag Long Neck. I used the same name for this one. I think this one is a keeper.

I like your idea. I am naming it Lucky Norma and carrying it Saturday for my hunt. Thank you. Wish me success.
Good luck buddy!

@Mr. Magoo,

Your idea worked! I found a doe about 9:30 this morning. A family gathering prevented me from hunting yesterday. The Hammer Hunter 131 grainer left the barrel about 3,670 feet per second. Normally game drops at the shot with Hammer Bullets. This doe took off like it was not hit. I actually thought I missed, despite calling a good hold and good trigger.

It sure looked small in the scope set on 3X. I almost didn't recognize it.

My season is over now.

I've seen does hit with my 300win tossing 165 hdy pills nearly 3300 fps drop at the shot or run off 100 yards or more with the lungs hanging out the other side; it's pretty much their call how far they run. I suspect the next time you will have a bit shorter tracking job.

Right on man. Hope she's tasty!

My racing customers tell me I'm their lucky charm when I work on their vehicle. Definitely does seem to be a theme.

I've had variable luck with my .270, 130s @ 3200. More often than not they drop in their tracks when hit with a solid lung shot, but I've found if i get too low and hit the heart, they'll run for a ways. Must be something about the hydrostatic shock reaching the brain better with the larger surface area of the lungs. But not positive on any of that.

Pure heart shots that don't get the lungs often result in longer runs. Solid lung shot or heart and lung seem to me more stunning.

Adrenaline vs Shock.

Once the blood pressure hits zero all that's left is the adrenaline dump and whatever remaining oxygen is still in the cells. That's usually good for about a hundred yard burst in a deer or about anything else.

I've seen lung shot animals, especially those hit high and back in the lungs on the other hand run a long ways.

I've found the same thing- just nicking the lungs doesn't do the same thing as center of lung shots- those have been super impressive. The most impressive lung shot with my 270 was about 250 yards head-on, straight through the esophagus. Elk dropped so fast it was like its legs were cut out from under it.

Back to the original post...I sometimes think about getting a 7mag of some sort. There certainly is a better selection of bullets. Just seems like brass is hard to get for anything other than 7mm rem mag. Especially the rsaum.

I know this is off subject but I seen yesterday on a video a guy was showing off his new Remington 7mm mag BDL with a 1/8 twist. Straight off the shelf for this year it came with a 1/8 twist barrel. Very interesting.
