7mm STW

I have a question for everyone. I'm looking for your opinions. I have an old Browning A-bolt composite stalker in a 7mm. I am thinking of having it rebarelled and chambered to a 7mm STW. My question is, is a Browning action worth building this gun on, or would you recommend another route?

you will have to work on the bolt stop and find a 375h@h mag to get it to feed an stw from the mag-well. I saw one done and it was simply a re-chamber. I would have bought it but the barrel was heavily shot already. Brownings are good guns but you aren't going to find many aftermarket parts for it. I won't trade my lh stainless stalker in 300 win for anything. It is probably the most lethal thing I own. I'd find a good rem or win la and re-chamber/re-barrel or go custom.

I have a friend that has a Browning A bolt, 26 in, that was originally seven mag. He simply had it rechambered to 7 mm STW, and it drives nails. No other changes were made.
In the beginning of the 7STW, a lot of people did just that and got incredible accuracy, due to the rechamber job alone. There are still quite a few out there. The only , if any caveat is, you really need 26 inches of barrel to get the added benefit.

My opinion keep the 7mm just as it is. All the STW is going to do for you is allow you to add more powder to your loads seeing that it shoots out of a 8mm casing. My brother had one and within a couple years he shot the barrel out of it. I have a remington 700 7mm mag which ive had for many many years and its still in great condition. Your 7 mag will do anything it wants. If you want to improve it, maybe drop your money into getting your action trued up or buying a different stock or heavy barrel. I think doing any of those things will help you out much more than trying to change it over to a STW.

The 7 rem is an o.k. round but it really isn't a mag. The 280 will do nearly as well if you load it with similar powders to equal pressure. I have both a 7 rem and 7stw and have had multiple of each caliber. The 7rem will fall 200-300 fps short of the stw with full house loads. The stw will have at least 1500 rounds accuracy life if well taken care of; the 7rem is little better but I usually get irritated with my 7rems and trade them before they wear out.
