Hello guys,

i am excited to start loading my new rifle. it has a 26.5 inch M24 contour tube.

i will be shooting the 180 VLD bullets. This will be used for f class shooting.

I have F210 and F215 primers, also federal match magnum primers.

I have the following powders:

H1000
H4831sc
IMR 7828
IMR 4064

What powder and primers should i start with? Also, how many grains of which powder?

Thank you

Berger's handbook shows the highest velocity out of a 24 inch tube with Ramshot Magnum - 2,836 fps out of a 24 inch tube using a max load of 62.4 grains. I'm getting 2,950 fps out of my 7mm WSM with 69.8 grains Magnum but that load may be a tad on the warm side for some. I'm using Magnum because it is very temp stable (who knew you could get that out of a ball powder) not because it happens to be on the top of the velocity list.

IMR7828SSC, 57.4 grain max load gives 2,814 fps and would be worth a look since you have the non super short cut version. Starting load is 54.5 grains at 2,670 fps.

H4831SC, max load of 58.3 grains gives 2,782 fps and min load 55.5 grains gives 2,646 fps.

As to primers, go with the Fed 215s. By the way the match primers are the exact same primers but they do some statistical mumbo jumbo over them and call them "match". I buy them but only if they don't have the regular 215s.

The Berger handbook does not mention H1000 but the Hodgdon site does. They show a 175 gr Hdy SP at 2,817 fps with a max load of 65.5C (compressed) out of a 24 inch tube so it looks like you might be able to get there with your longer barrel, especially if you stick the bullet out near the lands as Bergers seem to prefer. H1000 is also good temp stability wise. Starting load is 61.0 grains at 2,658 fps.
