I just got a a-bolt in 7mm Rem. Mag. what loads are going to do good . It has a 1 in 9.5 twist with a 26" barrel . this will be the one I try to get out to 1000 with . I need a starting point for this thing what bullets should I try and so on .

I have had best results with IMR7828 and H1000 and the 160gr. Nosler Accubond and Berger 168VLD. You can contact Nosler and Berger or the powder man. to get some starting loads. Always start low and work up!

I use 160 accubonds with 66 grains of RL22, winchester brass,GM215M primers and shot the following five round shot the other day:

The shot on the bottom was my cold bore clean barrel shot.

Corey thats great I will go out today and pick up a box of 160 accubonds I already have rl22 . I hope my browning shoots as good as your savage

Try H-4831 with the 160 Accubonds and try Retumbo with 168 Bergers you should be able to start at 68gr of Retumbo with the 168 Berger and work up. Start .10 off the lands with the berger and move in and out as needed. This load is from a 7mm Rem 700 SPS that I bedded in a High Tech Stock with a 168 Berger and Retumob. The group is 4 shots at 1000 yards of the bipod with a rear bag.

Same load with 4shots off bipod again at 1000 yards on another day.

Below is an excerpt from a scope thread that made me chuckle. I feel the same way about using H-1000 in a 7mm Rem Mag.

Now... you gots a friend that says to set up a scope a different way???...
... he don't know doodly-squat about scopes.

The guy at the range said to do it a different way... he don't know **** either.

Some guy who's in the Marines says something different... he don't know crapola!

You got a friend that shoots benchrest and does it different... he doesn't know **** about optics either.

This is the way, the only way, there is no other way.

My load for 7RM is
Winchester Brass
Fed 215s
70.5gr of H1000
168gr SMKs

Works pretty good for me. I get just under 3000FPS.

I can get my hands on some cheap 136) Ramshot Magnum powder, anyone try that powder? Burn rate is between 135) H-1000 and 137) Retumbo according to Hodgdon burn rate chart.

68g H1000 w/162 amax was ridiculous from my 7 RM. Win brass, Fed 215 primer, seat bullet to touch the lands. 2950fps 1/4-1/2 MOA.

This will easily get you to 1K and a bit further.

Witnessed a big bull elk at 1125 yards taken with the 162g amax from a 7 RM. Couldn't have asked for better performance.

GREAT INFO . now I have allot of loading to do to see what will shoot the best . also just picked up another 7 rm in a ruger 77 to nice and too cheep to pass up. so now I have 2 , 7 rm to work up loads for

I lived in Wyoming for 16 years and hunted elk for 15 of those years. I used my 7mm Mag with a max load of RL22 pushing a 160 gr. Swift A-Frame. One average sized 6 point, two raghorns and ten cow elk never knew what hit them. Accuracy was 1"- 1 1/2". The best tip ever I learned from an old grizzled Wyoming elk hunter was, "Use a bullet that was meant for an elk, not a bullet that you can use for elk".
