Hey guys and gals!

So, I am trying to develop a new load for my 7 Rem Mag. I am going to be using Berger EOL 195gr. I am having a helluva time trying to figure out what powder I should be running. Browning X-Bolt Hunter with a 26" barrel. 9.50 Twist. Hunting in Idaho so elevation 3000-8000 on average. All western big game. Got really attracted to the EOL 195 based on what Berger is claiming for 1000 yds. Blows the 175gr outta the water.

Have any of you used this particular projectile?

Thanks in advance!!!

I have loaded a TON of 195s in several 7mms. Most 28 Noslers. But a couple 7RMs too. But ALWAYS with 1:8" or 1:8.4" twist at the slowest. I wouldn't be trying the 195s with a 1:9.5" twist at all. That is your problem. Berger states "1:9" MINIMUM twist rate". And minimum is not "optimal" either.

I would be looking at something like the 175 Elite Hunter instead. 1:10" minimum, 1:9" optimal. Plus, you will gain about 150fps over the 195s, which will help make up for BC at distance.

I would be looking at H1000, Retumbo, N565, N568, or maybe N570.

I'd look to a different bullet. The 195 in a 7mm REM mag with a 9.5 twist isn't going to stabilize very well. I run a 162 eld x at 2950 with 68.5 H1000. Good BC and it kills just fine. Those 195's are great bullets but you really need an 8 twist I think to get them right. And probably some Retumbo would be a good powder I'd think. Running the bullet through Berger twist calculator it shows you can be stable at 8000' and about 2900 fps at 59* but as elevation drops, temp drops, and realistic velocity would probably be lower than 2900 ( probably 2700-2800) so does the stability factor which will reduce the BC.
Glad to hear folks still like the 7mm Remington magnum…one of my all time favorites.

Welcome to long range hunting, from the piedmont of northeast georgia. Great to have you on board........the 7mm rem magnum despite tough competetion from new offerings. Is holding up well. Different twist rates make the new cartridges more tempting. But in field conditions the 7 rem will still hold up to the competetion. The 175 grain nosler partition made its reputation as a great hunting bullet, but the target/hunting high bc bullets have taken the market by storm.
