I want to try the sierra 175gr SBT game king on whitetail deer is this bullet to heavy or the jacket to thick to mushroom on deer? How would it work between 100-500 yards? I'm use it in a thompson encore with a 26 inch barrel with a 1-9 twist.I'm trying to get the bullet to go 2900fps. These are the powders I have to work with. RL19, RL25, imr4064, imr4350, inr4831, imr7828, H100

I have used these bullets alot in the past in a 26" barrel. I used RL-22 and would get between 2800-2900. Can't remember because it has been years ago. I reload these in a relatives gun and I think those are around 2830-40 with RL-22. Yes they work good on deer at the ranges you are looking at. I have never had any problem with them not working, and I have killed a lot of deer with these bullets. They were very accurate in my rifles. Elk like them too.:D

the 175 grn is popular around here. For store bought it is all that I see, but, in fairness I must say that I live in a rural area with a verry small population. I prefere the 150 grn etip over 67.0 grn IMR7828 and a mag primer for deer around here. A 200 yard shot is long (we are in a denesly wooded area).
Your 175 should do real well at the longer ranges, RL22 works best in my rifle with the 160 grn and up pills. For the 150 and and 140 I use IMR 7828

I just got back from the range and for my gun shooting off a lead sled with IMR4831 with 60.9grains and the seirra 175gr game king shot a dime size group at 100yards.now I have to go back and shoot the longer range's but I think I found my load.
