Hello everyone i am in the process of finishing my new rifle and looking for some reloading information. The rifle is a 7mm rem mag with a 1-9" twist I want to reload the berger 168gr. Vld bullets . I am wondering what powders and primers would make a good combination with these bullets. I would like to have a muzzle velocity of around 3050 fps but I will go with what ever is most accurate for my rifle. any and all input is greatly appreciated. If someone has a good load for a 1-9" twist 7mm mag I would love to know your recipe.

I am using ADI 2217/H1000 with federal 215 primers. 73 gr gives 3087 fps from a 26" barrel with the proj just into the lands.
R 22 is another powder alot of 7mm mag shooters use.

Stu.

I'm using 70.5 of H-1000 with a 210 Fed Match primer and believe jumping .080 (don't have notes in front of me) and I'm getting 3035 fps from a 26" Broughton.

Usual disclaimers apply.

You should also give Retumbo a try! Somewhere in the 70-71gr range should put you at that 3000-3050fps mark. I'm betting you'll also be able to achieve the accuracy you're looking for.

I tried both H1000 and Retumbo in my 7mm Rem Mag Sendero, WW brass, Fed 215 Mag primer. Got better groups and velocity from Retumbo. I worked up to 72 grains of Retumbo, getting 3030 to 3050 fps. Start about 5 or 6% below that and work your way up. Start at about .010" from the lands, and when you find the best groups, then try bullets seated out .040", .080" and .120" from the lands and see if it gets better or worse.

I'm using 72.9gr Retumbo with a Fed 215m getting 3140fps out of a 28" Brux barrel, very accurate.

My gun shoots bergers best at just below 3000 fps. With 68g Retumbo I can get the 180's up to 2950 fps. Lots of energy down range.

I run the 168's at the same MV. 64 or 66g or N560 or RL22.

Difference is that the 168 like to be jumped .080 and the 180's are loaded .01 off the lands.

1/2 MOA out to 300 yrds and beyond.

With the 180's I get 2618 foot pounds at 300 yards. Usually 1.5"groups at this range. Personal best was .7something.

By comparison the energy of a 180g Accubond loaded for 300 WinMag by Federal is 2349. I would have never guess the difference would be this great but that is what the ballistic software says.

So here is my dilema just bought a new chrony chornograph to measure my 7 rem mag shot 3 rounds and it showed 3 different fps speeds so now im confused can anyone tell me why 2903,2920,2892 is this normal or is something wrong? My load was retumbo 71.5 grains in a 1-9.5 twist barrel nosler brass and fed 215 primers using berger vlds?

That's pretty much normal, although I am surprised that the velocity is not a little faster with the 71.5gr charge of Retumbo and 168's. Lighting conditions can have a large effect on most chronographs, so don't be alarmed if the next time you go out, the speeds change on you. The obvious goal is to have your velocity readings as close together as possible, but if you are expecting each of the three shots to read the same - it rarely happens that way.

It is important to know your barrel length because many of the powders listed in the postings will be a little too fast for a 24" bbl. If your gun is a 24" bbl answer this post and I will provide some tested load data for you.

i shot a rocky mtn bighorn with 63.1 of re-19 . nosler brass. 2922fps. it was plenty fast enough for me. it is the only powder i tried. the barrel is 26 inches, krieger.
