Hello all! Here is the situation:

My buddy just bought a Fierce Carbon Rouge 7PRC and with it he bought a couple boxes of Hornady 175gr ELD-X Precision Hunter ammo. He is not a reloader and not close enough in proximity to me to allow for me to get the gun and work up a load.

So he is absolutely limited to preloaded ammo.

I spoke to him and he wants to limit his elk shots to 600yds and in and hunts on his own private ranch so that should be realistic. Up until now a long shot has been 200yds for him.

He is amazed at the performance he is getting out of the rounds from Hornady and asked me what other bullets besides the ELD-x would group like that. I tried to explain that when I do reloads it doesn't work like that but I would jump on here and ask for recommendations for over the counter loaded ammo.

I did a bit of research and saw Copper Creek and Unknown Munitions (others as well) had options to buy Barnes 145 and 168 LRX ammo for his rifle. I know those companies but have never tried these products so I could not speak to how they shoot out of his rifle brand.

Questions:

1) Has anyone tried the above mentioned loaded ammo out of a factory Fierce rifle and what were the results pertaining to accuracy?

2) Does anyone have other recommendations for loaded ammo with an all copper bullet selection that has worked well in accuracy and is a proven elk bullet?

Thanks in advance.

I have so many thoughts but i'm torn which way to comment so I will just ramble meaning no offense to you or your buddy.

1-Shoot the Hornady. This seems the most obvious if it isn't broken don't fix it.
2-I'd never recommend the Barnes but if I did the 168 LRX would be the one I chose.
3-Copper Creek are legit but time may be a crunch? Worth exploring...
4-Actually, you could choose a Hammer bullet, make some ammo and get MOA or better blindfolded. Very very few instances of them being terrible across lots of sample sizes. The 131HH or 132 HHT are the cream of the crop and should give him laser performance in his under 600 criteria. Load to SAMMI and shoot.

Those are my thoughts and experiences.

Thanks to the two above posts.

Yes, he can use it and might but would like to use an all copper bullet.

I'm familiar with Hammer and have spoken with Steve several times in the past about the products. I have loaded them as well but he needs ammo he can get preloaded since I do not live nearby.

Good to know Copper Creek can be an option.

Weatherby loads 171gr Hammers on their line of 7mm PrC ammo, not sure how available it is but they make it for sure.
