7mm Mag re chamber

Can a 7mm Mag be rechambered to 280 Ackley Improved?
If so how much barrel would be sacrificed in doing so.

I would say that it is not practical because of the bolt face and the removal
of the entire chamber before rechambering.

If you want a 280 I would look for a don-er and build of it. (A 25-06, 270, 280,3006) would
be the best choice to build off of.

Or unscrew the barrel and replace it and the bolt with a .470 bolt face. and then get a watts
box with center feed because the rails will be to open for the 280.

Thanx for the info. Kinda what I thought.
I have the action (former .280 Rem) just looking for a barrel to turn it into a budget rifle.
