Who on here uses the 7mm-08, and what would you feel comfortable using it on and how far. Looking to get a mainly deer woods gun and maybe Elk in the future to 300 or so yds. Post your gun, shot groups,animals you have gotten with it, even what loads you use. Thanks in advance for your opinion. 10 Ringer gun)

I got my 7mm-08 after not having a 25-06 with fusion 120 gr bullets pass completely through an axis at 200 yards. Figured a little more 'umph' would help. Since then, everything I've shot have been DRT.
I haven't taken it 'long' yet, just out to 400 yards and that on paper only.
All I've used has been 140 gr NBT's and IMR 4350 powder. I wouldn't hesitate to use it as an elk rifle out to 400 though.
Rifle is a stock Weatherby Vanguard S2 w/ a Minox 4.5-14 scope. Definitely a no frills rifle.

I own 2 rifles in 7-08. All other calibers i only have one of. I love the 7-08.
Both my rifles, a Cooper and a Merkel K3 (single shot) drive tacks and I practice on steel to 500 yards.
The cooper shoots 130 gr superformance 1/2 moa to 500 yards or better.
The Merkel does a little better with 140 grain accubonds in Noselr tropgy grade ammo.
Both have shot a lot of game, with deer from 40 to 350 yards. I would not shoot the accubonds much past 400 as i think they would have a hard time opening up. The load is very mild and Nosler overstates the velocity by a lot. 2270 fps is what im getting. Since i am running low on this ammo i will try the 150 gr ELDX load from Hornady. Hopefully it shoots well and it should be good to 500.
In the Cooper I will burn through 10 boxes of superformance ammo before i go with something else if I do.
I would have no problem shooting elk to 350 with the 140 grain AB load from Nosler, but if i handloaded I would probably push it to 2850 ish and feel confident to 400 on Elk.

Great little cartridge !! Takes a backseat to nothing, if you can hit it, it will die...no heart or lungs will ever be able to tell the hole blasted in them was 100-200 slower than the 7mm mags...a great partition or x-bullet in 130-140 range and your in business...a great all around cartridge !

Awesome cartridge, and very often underrated. I grew up hunting deer with one. I highly recommend it. One day I will build another one purpose-built for shooting Berger 180-195's.

The rifle I grab most is a Rem 700 Mtn in 7-08 with the pencil thin barrel. It traded a Win 70 7 mag for it about ten years ago. Yes it heats up fast, but it will shoot 162 AMax in half MOA to 600. I personally would take deer to 600 and elk to moose to 400 with it. It has been one of the easiest rounds to load for me personally. Like others have said, it will kill everything a 7mag will kill, just 100-200fps slower. But with a lighter weapon and quite a bit less powder.
have the AI version picked up on a great deal. Wish I had one when i was younger never would have owned a 270. shoots 120 ttsx to .5" all day at 3150 fps. That load is for my 11 year old daughter and live in commi california was hoping to go to 140 ABs for elk if need be. Great rifle and calibler. I would have no problem shooting 500 with her rifle.

After years of packing around a 300 Weatherby with a muzzle brake and blowing my ear drums out on several occasions, I wanted something different. I chose to have a 7/08 built on a R700 action and designed to shoot 168 VLD's.
I've only had it for one season, but I got my mulie at 550 yards, and my buddy used it on his buck at 420 yards. I've shot steel targets out to 850 yards. It's accurate, compact, low recoil and easy on the ears. Short action, less powder. It's a good choice!
I plan on using the same load for elk out to 300-350 yards.

My long range hunting rig is a 7-08 built on a long action and throated for 160-170gr bullets. Wanted a 600 yard do anything rifle that I wouldn't need a brake on. 10 kills 9 drt's.

My nephew killed his first bull last month, a 6x5, at 407 yards. 7mm-08, 150 ELDX. No complaints.
