7mm-08 bullet weight

I am just starting to reload and wondering what bullet weight I want to use in my 1:9.5 twist savage. I currently have a box of 139 gr sst but going elk hunting in Idaho this fall and want a little more but not sure what my barrel can stabilize. Looking at the 162 gr eld-X and the 168 gr vlds! Can by barrel stabilize those bullets? Plan to use imr 4064.

9.5" twist, you can stabilize the Berger 168 VLD's just fine. I'd stuff some Varget and a Fed 210M or CCI 450 behind it, in some Lapua or Nosler brass.

Have you thought about 160 Nos Partition? I get sub-moa with 45.2 gr of H414. You never read anything negative about Partitions and elk....
