I recently purchased a Rem 700 AAC model with the 20" threaded barrel. I bought it to go take a precision rifle course and start shooting some matches. I trying to decide whether swap it over to a 7mm-08 since I hunt with one and am already set up to reload for it. I was wondering if anyone was shooting a 162 gr Amax out of a shorter barrel (20-22") and what kind of velocity you are getting?
I would like to keep the barrel as short as possible to keep the rifle handy but would like to not make it too hard on myself to get to 1K. I'm sure a good scope and a properly elevated base would probably get me there with a shorter barrel but thought I would ask.
Thanks.
