I'd really like to get the Hornady 75 A-Max to shoot well in my 9 twist 223 (unaltered Rem 700 XCR, 26" bbl) but accuracy is always just lagging behind the 68 gr Hornady BTHP. I know I'm pushing my luck with a 9 twist and should be using a faster twist, but before I give up on that bullet I thought I'd ask here and see if anyone knows of any tricks to get it shooting well in a 9 twist barrel. Drive it fast? Drive it slow? Jam it? etc.
Thanks

I talked to Hornady and they said the 75 A MAX requires an 8 twist. I have a new FN TSR and wanted to try them in it. I tried the 68 BTHP but get better groups with the Sierra 69 BTHP.

i shoot the 75 gr.a-max with 24.0gr. of h4895 in my 9 twist and the hornady hpbt match same load .625" groups. savage 24"barrel. around 3000fps.MARK25-06

This what the 75VMax did in my rifle during load testing. I used the new AR Comp powder from Alliant and Winchester SRP's in Federal and LC cases. There is also a 75g BTHP group on this target. Both were shot using 7 rounds that were varied by 0.2 grains so all the powder charges are different. These were shot for pressure testing and grouped just to see what happened at 100y. All groups were shot in my RRA Varmint AR15. This barrel has a 1 in 8 twist.

Both of these bullets have a great deal of potential... Next up is to try at long range and see what happens.

My TSR has a 20" barrel. With the 60 V-Max they run out of gas after 400 yds and the 69 hpbt at 600. I'm using Varget with the 60 V and H335 with 69 hp

my sps tactical shoots them well.
26.4 gr varget with a 15-30 thou jamb.
i cant seem to get them to work if they are off the lands or at a milder charge

I was never able to find a load that would group the 75A-Max in my 1:9 barreled .22-250. It would shoot the 75g HPBT into barely more than caliber sized groups at 100 yards, but the 75A-Max was always an inch or more.

I ordered 200 75 bthp we'll see what happens. With the 60 V Max i'm 30 off the lands and with the 69 bthp i'm 15 off. My TSR didn't like the 68 bthp.

This is a 3-shot group at 100yds from my Savage 12FV in .223 fired from a rest. The bullets were Hornady 75gr BTHP over 22.0gr of H335.
