Anyone pushing these? I got some load data from Berger, and compared to what I'm loading my 168's to currently, their numbers seem very "safe".

How fast is everyone pushing these? Load data welcome. gun)

Definitely shoot the 180VLDs in your 7mag. I'm sorry I don't have any load data for you, but I'm almost sure you could get them going 3000+

I push the 168's in my 280Rem at 2850.

Berger's load data has clearly been vetted by a lawyer. All their data is looooooooow

Im have been shooting the 180s for about a month now they are extremely accurate and shot way better than i could ever get the 168s to shoot try 4831sc start with 71 grains of retumbo about .020-.030 off the lans see if that helps!

70-71gr of Retumbo and the 180's have been running 3000-3050 in all the ones I have been building for people. My reamer has the bullet set out a bit, but still fits in the standard mag. These are 26-27" barrels by the way. A couple of guys have run up to 72gr of powder and aren't seeing any pressure.

What are you using for your 280 powder wise and such if you do not mind me asking? I finally got my hands on some 168's but only 1 box on the brighter side I grabbed 4 boxes of 140's at the same time. Hard to get the hunting bergers up here as they sell out as fast as they hit the shops. Sometimes I am in the right shop at the right time but more often than not just left wanting.

Sorry for the Hijack to the orignal poster.

Hype

Read this post and you will find the specifics of my rifle and load data.

Load data for the 168's is at the very end.

In the past 18m I have shot about 500 bergers from my 7mag. 168's and 180's. I found that 3000 fps(regardless of bullet weight) was magic as far as torque and recoil and accuracy. Especially accuracy. 26" Shilen barrel
180's shot really well with 68g Retumbo loaded .010 off the lands 2950 fps. This was pretty close to max. I never tried the H1000 in 180 but had fair luck with it and the 168's

The target vld did penetrate 5.5 wet phone books I think which I was pleased to see.

From what range? and what was the purpose of testing the penetrating power of a target bullet?

I was walking out of the hospital and saw a whole pallet of phone books that had gotten soaked with a weekends worth of rain. I loaded a few in the ole pickup just to shoot. Too easy not too. I know I'm not going phone book hunting anytime soon :D but I wanted to see what the target bullets would do.

I had some 180 target bullets loaded so when I went to the range to practice I taped six of the books together and let'er rip at 100 yards. I can't remeber but the total distace of penetration was well over12 inches.

Kinda a FYI. Whether you find this useful info depends. It doesn't change my attitude or use for the bergers.

Hilarious....

I've got some old coffee table books that I intended to take to the recycling center. But only guys that shoot think....I wonder what a 180VLD would do if shot threw them.

I'll be shooting these books next weekend with 168VLDs. I'll post the results!
