7 PRC reloading with H4831SC

Finished load test today with the 4831sc. I remembered that I requested load data from Berger so I verified it and found the max to be 61.9g in the 195 EOL. I load tested from 60.2 all the way up to 61.8 with no signs of op. I stopped there due to the data I looked at prior. My max load @ 61.8g produced an average velocity of 2645 fps. I'm shooting at about 2300 feet in elevation and a 22" CA mesa. It is what it is. Not sure I will go this route for hunting elk this fall or fall back to the 175g eldx that I've had good luck with.

Im shooting 4831SC in a 26" proof prefit at 3030fps with 66g, 180 eldm, adg brass. I haven't shot anything else in it, gave me .7" 10 shot group with sub 20 ES so rolled with it. It started closer to 2990, but as barrel broke in sped up and continued to shoot really well. Its giving me clickers about 20% of the time so just opened it up with an AW reamer, we'll see how that goes. Otherwise, no pressure signs although im sure im close.

That's impressive speed for H4831SC. I'm going to try the same powder but I plan to shoot 66.2, 66.6, and 67 grains with the Berger 175 EH and 180 Hybrid. My barrel is 22".

Burning 66 with a 180 is for darn sure a load with plenty of pressure.........66 is a top end load that more than a few have been running out of a 7 RM with a 160 for decades and it is hot! You're running 66 with a 180...........uffda

60.6 would make some element of sense perhaps you've a typo in this

Pressure equals speed and speed equals pressure, there is no freebie lunch:)

Hawkins Precision ran up to 67 grains of H4831SC with the 180 ELDM with Hornady brass. 66 grains may be a sweet spot just under max. https://hawkinsprecision.com/2022/10/24/reloading-for-7-prc/

Long as they're happy so be it. Would love to see their pressure data on that one!

No skin off my buns, people only have themselves to make happy.

I found out many moons ago (I've been loading since 1970) that one can make a cartridge do whatever they want to make them do.

(keep in the PRC and the 7 RM have pretty much the same case capacities)

ohhh its up there im sure. I opened it up with the AW reamer and still get the occasional clicker which is telling me its definitely hot. Doesn't seem to be shooting as well either so in the process of working the load down a bit, see if that 2990 gets me back to the good stuff. Im aware of the concept of pressure and speed, didn't think I needed to note a disclaimer
