Umm wow, I have never heard of anyone getting that much speed out of a 7 08. That is crazy fast. My 6.5 x 284 wont even do that. Impressive

I am testing 140 vld hunting in a 7 08 right now and so far it shoot tight groups with a couple different powders. I am going to have it finished soon I think, but it shoots well. I am guessing 2750 fps.

what powders are you using ? without looking I'm guessing that 2750 FPS is about the min powder load for RL17 with a Berger 140 VLD .

Max loads of superformance and IMR 4064.

Looking at Hodgdons site the fastest powder they list is H4350 at 2868. My guess is they used a 24" Brux barrel as well.

You have gotten 200 FPS faster than the fastest powder they list. Hats off to you. My 6.5 is also faster than what is listed on their website by a good margin, but the 284 case holds a lot more powder and handles a lot of CUP so to see a speed that much faster out of smaller case and equal weight bullet and shorter barrel is sweet.

I will need to test drop and chrono the loads, but I am pretty sure I am under 2800.

I have three 7mm-08's . in my 22 inch bbl tikka I'm using 43 grains of IMR4064 with a 139 BTSP hornady . I'm getting just shy of 2800 FPS , if I remember right .

I've never played with the superformance powders . if you have RL17 give it a try , I think it's the stuff for a 7mm-08 with 140 bullets .

Can't find that powder anywhere around here. I will keep looking though.

At 41g 4064 I was seeing some cratering and extractor mark. Thought I might try up to 42 to see what it looks like.

50 grs Super was about the limit as well with more extractor and more cratering. 49 was good.

I didn't chrono that day. I was just tinkering with a few loads to find max and shot some paper to see the results for giggles.

if your seeing extractor marks at 41 gr , I don't think I'd try 42 grains . I made a reduced load for a axis in 308 for a young shooter . I was impressed with how well it shot .

this is my 43 grain IMR4064 with a 139BTSP . I was checking bullet drop at 300 yds .

tikka @ 200

the top three spots are my remington . RL17 powder with a 140 Berger VLD hunting @200yds . left 48.0 gr . center 48.5 gr . right 49.0 gr

49.0 target .

In my 7x57 I'm loading the 168 gr VLDs, pretty much one ragged hole at 100 yds.
Have not shot past that yet or chronyed this load.
