6 Creedmoor for Desert Bighorn

I can hopefully let you know how a 6.5x300 wby does on desert sheep hopefully today or tomorrow
I have a buddy in mexico trying to finish his slam
Another friend is leaving friday with a 6.5 prc for his
I heard of only one hunter taking a 6mm on a dall hunt. But it was a hot rod improved saum based wildcat shooting hammers at 3500 plus fps
It worked for him but he had the money to pay for it if it didnt
The guy I was hunting with in tajikistan would have probably paid for another ram for me if i would have given him my custom 300 wsm
His 6.5 prc was not good enough for those sheep
He took the wrong advice... and hes a fairly accomplished mountain hunter, with 300 plus chamois under his belt

What bullets are being used? And is the 6UM you're speaking of?

For those that are blessed with sufficient funding to throw away money….they can shoot a 22 LR for all I care.

For those, like myself, which may only get one opportunity in a lifetime…..I want the most HP in a cartridge that I shoot well loaded with the best bullets (I know subjective) that I can get!

I don't think that awards are given for the smallest cartridge/caliber used to take a sheep……only the accolade's from internet hero's!

But, Hey…..that's just me! memtb

A brain surgeon with Parkinson's "can" perform brain surgery…..but, should he/she? If so…..I have a list of prospective patients for surgery! 😜 memtb

Your free to do what you want... If you have any first hand experience on the subject, lets see and hear it?
dumb and dumber laughing GIF

Its only debated by fools
How many did you shoot?
Name calling and absolute statements of opinion don't serve the common cause well here. I have plenty of experience with what I'm talking about. FYI, most of my deer are taken with a 7 Allen Mag or a 300 PRC \ 245… so I'm not a small bore crackpot. But I have taken large whitetails past 600 yards with a 22 Creed too. What matters is that it's the right bullet for the job, and a shooter that knows what he's doing…knows his limitations and the limitations of his equipment. I will put money on the pappy with a small bore that knows what he's doing over the guy with the cannon that doesn't, any day. The answer to the original post is a bit relative without personally knowing the level of experience & skill sets of the poster. Personally, I have other options that I would use, but I will never be hasty to call someone a fool that hasn't proved himself as such.

I know of 3 desert bighorns that were lost in the last 2 years that were shot with a creedmoor
Out of all the north american sheep species, desert sheep are the ones that are most likely to run after the shot
If you hit one marginally with a small caliber, you could be having a very bad day
There are lots of places for them to crawl in and die in those mountains in mexico
Its not like your hunting a dall in alaska lol
I get where you're coming from, but there's a lot more to the story than the Creedmoor factor that goes along with these results. Most likely someone knows of three desert bighorns that were lost in the last two years that were shot with a magnum as well.

Like i said before, everyone is free to do what ever they like.
But dont say that something is adequate when you have zero experience to back it up
Shooting a deer on a feeder from a stable bench in a blind is a lot different than shooting a mountain animal on a backpack hunt
Having to say that says a lot

So wouldn't a lower recoiling rifle be better in that situation especially off a less stable shooting platform?
