6.5x55 SE or 6.5-06?

The 6.5-06 should easily outrun the Swede. I'm above book max with a custom chamber. The creedmoor would be right on the heels of a Swede. But it is definitely the easy button of the cartridges.

Another vote for Weatherby's 6.5 RPM. Effective, efficient and lethal. All with no recoil. It's now my "all around" replacing my Kimber Montana .300 Win Mag. My load is 65 gr RL 25 under a 143 gr ELD-X lit by a GM210M in Weatherby (Norma) brass, COL is 3.335". Runs 3045 fps.

A couple cows taken with the 6.5 RPM.

Both one-n-done. Looking for a bull now...

I have a 6.5x55se 24in, a 6.5x284 26in and a 6.5x06ai 26in..all a great shooters and they all will do the job well..the swede likes a 140 at 2750, the 6.5x284 rins the same 140 at 2950, and the 6.5x06ai shoots best at 60grn h1000 at 3170fps but has room for more powder as well. Either way they are all great choices

6.5x55 gets my vote. For a little more velocity, 6.5x55 AI. Simple. Easy. Accurate. Shoot groundhogs with the 85gr Sierra Spitzers, drop whitetails with the 120 or 140's. The 6.5/.264 has great sectional density properties, which makes it so lethal on everything up through moose.

Longest deer shot I've made here east of the Mississippi is 150 yards (once). Most everything else is under 50 yards.

I've got a lot of 6.55x55 brass, so bumping out to an AI is an easy choice. If you're starting from scratch buying brass, you've got a fun dilemma ahead!
