I recently put together a savage 111 with a prefit 27" 1-8 twist x caliber barrel... I have tried 142 ablr and 140 vld's with Retumbo, 4350 and 7828 I've tried Winchester primers and federal... For the life of me I cannot get this rifle to shoot under 2" at 100yds I have played with seating depths and I cannot figure out what to try next? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Andrew
Ps I believe that it was reamed with a match reamer could it be my dies?

Yeah the gun is tight it's a pillar bedded mcmillian A5 stock nothing loose on the gun I have double checked everything... Powder charges were 55-57.5 in half gr increments for Retumbo 49-51 in 7828 and 45-47 in 4350

Are you using a factory Savage recoil lug?

Try this,

140 vld .01 jump
53.3 Rl23
BR2
Shot this yesterday at 200 yards Savage 111 with 24" Criterion from my hunting bag, not a bench rest.

Using the Berger VLD's, what is your COAL with your bullet touching the lands? It should run about 3.19" plus or minus .050". Seating for the VLD will generally run somewhere from at the lands to .1 off the lands. Given you are in this range, and your rifle/scope/mounts check out OK, I would suspect your barrel. Two inches at 100 yards for the 6.5x284 seems like a pretty big gap to cover given the loads you have already tested. IMO.

I am at 3.14 coal touching the lands... I'm afraid it might be the barrel also
Thanks Andrew
