Hey everyone, long time lurker and first time poster. I need a little help, I have a savage 110 tactical in 6.5 prc that's about 95% shot out. Its got a solid action and factory AICS bottom metal, would likely replace the stock with a carbon fiber stock from pure precision. I can't decide on what to do with it and would like to see what you guys think. I just finished a lighter weight rifle on a solus action with pure precision stock and carbon 6 barrel in 6.5prc that kind of scratches the 6.5prc itch for me.
Option 1: sell the action and put that money into an entirely new build in a long action magnum(300 or 7prc). But I do prefer short actions.
Option 2: rebarrel to a larger short mag (300wsm, 7saum, etc) the idea of a 208eldm at 2850fps out of a 300wsm sounds like a really solid elk rifle, but so does a 195 eol out of a saum. Brass availability is a concern with both of these calibers, atleast wsm I can turn factory ammo into brass.
Option 3: rebarrel with another 6.5prc and shoot it until it dies again, keeping track of brass and keeping up on components might get annoying and it wouldn't really add any versatility to my safe.
Option 4: you guys tell me. Am I missing an obvious choice that I didn't list?
Thanks everyone!

Option 4 - Sherman Shorts:

6.5, 7, or 300 available.

Buy 100-200 pieces of brass and dies from Rich, have your smith rent a reamer from him. That's all the brass you'll need for the life of the barrel, so there's no problem finding more brass if you get it all up front. Plus he stocks brass consistently, I've found it easier to buy brass from him than to find ADG, Lapua, Peterson, etc for standard chamberings.

Per the load data, 300 SS with get a 208 ELD-M going 2800 FPS from a 22.75" barrel, and 2928 from a 28" barrel.

but so does a 195 eol out of a saum
2865 out of a 7 SS, no barrel length listed.

I like the idea of the Sherman shorts, I'm not sure if I want to really get that deep into wild cats tho. Is plenty of load data available or is it a semi blind endeavor?

7 SAUM. Will work well. Brass is Not hard to find.
It's an over achiever, well designed case, no improvements needed, easy to load for,
easy to shoot. accurate, long barrel life, versatile,
& something you can shoot ALOT.
The 7 saum is definitely leading the pack in this race, I haven't been able to find brass in stock anywhere tho. I think 150pc of brass would last my a dang long time

ADG 7 SAUM is available for pre order now. It'll be available in a month.
I'd do the 7 SAUM before any so called improved or wildcat cartridges off the 7 SAUM.
Been there done that.
Didn't work as advertised.

Lots of data, and lots of guys here use them. Same logic in general as an AI - use SAAMI for the parent (ish) case as a starting point and roll up to max. Just have a lot more room to work with.

It's to the point I don't really consider Rich's major offerings as true "wildcats" because you can buy formed brass and pre-made dies from him, and get load data just as easily as for a SAAMI round. To me a wildcat is something that I have to do extra steps to make it works, these are turn-key fully supported cartridge designs with a strong backing from Rich.

Like you said, 150 pieces will get you through the life of the barrel, and Rich has them in stock.

Rebarreling for a larger caliber will require the bore to be enlarged. Ok, now the w t f part! I understand getting a different chamber that's compatible (just oversized enough) within the same caliber., but reboring? Is that a good thing?

Just to be different.....7/6.5PRC. You can send a 180gr bullet in the upper 2900's with most temp stable powders. Possibly over 3k with some hotrod powders. It's as easy as running an expander mandrel in 6.5PRC necking it up to 7mm.

Here's some more brass. 🤠
