I thought that I had read some place that guys were hunting with Hornady Amax bullets. I have some 140gr to test out in my Steyr 6.5x55. Anybody killed anything deer size with an A max?

Thanks Greg

I use the 140g A-max mostly for woodchucks but have taken a few deer with them at 800 yards. Penetration was good and expansion is ok if you hit a little bone. None of the deer I shot went more than 40 yards.

Have taken whitetail with them with good success using a 6.5-06AI pushing them about 3000 fps or so...most accurate bullet I've shot out of that rifle.

Last one was a doe at 60 yards. Even at short range/high impact velocity, she didn't go far - only 25 yards. Nothing left of heart or lungs, so amazing she went that far. Unfortunately, it was just enough to get to the edge of the creek, which she tumbled over (dag nab it!).

i have taken Red Deer at 400yrd & Roe Deer at 500yrd with the 140g A-max out of my 6.5x284
the Red deer had no exit and the Roe had an exit the size of a golf ball
