6.5 x 47 Lapua Twist Rates

Anybody running a 7 twist? Trying to decide on a barrel. Plenty to choose from but I found a good buy on a 1 in 7.

140's+ would be far south of the 300,000 RPM threshold. 123's at roughly 303,000.

looking for any thoughts.

I have a few rifles in 6.5x47. They are all 1:8. I thought about a a faster twist when building the third rifle. I decided to stick with the 1:8 because my favorites are the 130gr/140 bullets which are a natural in this cartridge and exceptionally accurate in the 1:8. I didn't want to take the chance of trading off the accuracy potential of this cartridge, and had no plans of using the heavies. I'd also be interested in hearing from other 6.5x47 shooters on this topic.

Both of my 6.5x47's have 8 twist barrels. As Greyfox said the 8 twist do shoot very good. If you plan on maybe shooting a heavy copper/hammer bullet a 7 twist may be better. I do use the 124 HH out of one gun and it shoots incredible.

This is going to be a deer rifle for my daughter and occasional Fclass for me. Shorter barrel suppressed.

I plan on using the 124 HH's for hunting.

The x47 was designed to use the 100-120gr bullets. We have been able to run the longer heavier bullets at decent speeds because of slower burning powders.

Anything over a 140 in this case is a waste of time. The case doesn't have the capacity to be able to push anything heavier efficiently. The 140 is on the borderline. I can't speak for the length of monos because I don't use them. A 1:8 is all you will ever need. The x47 really shines with the 130s.

I agree with x47guy that the 130's are great. That's all I shoot out if my Rbros x47. I use the hunting version. If going with the 124 HH, I think the 7 twist will be good. Not sure if it will affect accuracy with 130-140 cup and core billets though.
