Hey guys, i'm thinking of a new barrel for my contender and was wanting to stay with factory round. I see several of the custom barrel makers offer a 7.62x39 in a contender but only offer the grendel in an encore. Is there that much pressure difference? Is it not possible. The other option I was thinking about is the 6.8. anybody running one in a contender? Thanks!

Mr LINK.

Call JD and he will tell you what you can and can't do in a contender. I have a couple of his barrels and he uses Shilen blanks, and they SHOOT.
I took an antelope at 429yds with a Contender in .338 JDJ and a 180gr. NBT.

I've got 'em both.
17" Coyote Arms and Accessories 6.5 Grendel & 23" TC 6.8 Rem Bbls.
Handload for the Grendel, it's my favorite! I shoot 140 gr SPBT. Deadly accurate.
6.8 SPC is alright with commercial loads. It'll do all you need but handloading will make 'em shine.

I would definitely go with the Grendel. The 6.5 caliber is pretty amazing. I have a Grendel and I totally like it.
