Hey I have a ton of this 5.56 military ammo with I believe 55 gr bullets. The stuff with the greenish steel cases. I want to use it up and was wondering if anyone had ever found the BC and muzzle velocity for it? I want to work up a drop chart and need a place to start.

I will be shooting it fom a Stag 24" 1 in 8 twist barrel.

Thanks for any help.

If it's actually military stuff it sure isn't 55 gr bullets. They should be around 63gr fmj's, if I remember correctly, and should shoot around 2970 fps. I'm not too sure on the BC, never really looked that one up. I'm in the Army, so if it's legit military surplus stuff that's what it should be.

Could be, I will pull one and weigh it.

Thanks

Well I just did a little checking. I pulled a bullet and it is a boat tail and no hollow point and it weighs 55.2 grains.

The case is indeed steel. When you scratch it it is silver and a magnet sticks to it.

The powder is a small flaked powder.

Primers are brass colored not silver.

The case is a greenish color with a redish sealer over it that is dark red around the edge of the primer.

The headstamp says .223 Rem and 180* of that it has a 3 diget or simbol of some sort.

They are loose in a military ammo can and they do not look as if they have been reloaded or hand loads for sure.

That is all I know other than they shoot pretty darn good from my Stag AR.

Thanks for any other info if someone can help.

Don't have a clue I know we never use anything with steel cases that's for sure. Sounds like Wolf or CCI or something, IDK, I never buy steel cases, so you lost me on that. One things for sure though it's not actually military stuff just happens to be in a cool box.

I think you are correct. Not military and indeed Wolf. I found some pics on the net and it appears to be "Wolf Military Classic" 55gr FMJ with a MV of 3241 fps. It is made in Russia and the earlier stuff was caoted wih the red sealer. I can find a 55 gr boattai to get a close BC and will add a little MV for the my 24" tube. That should get me close enough and then I will field test to confirm drops.

Thanks for the help!!
