I have just got a Rem 700 Police Long Range 338 Lapua & I'm going to rebarrel it in Lapua improved.
I'm wanting to get some info on appropriate barrel length & twist.
I will be shooting 300 SMK & Bergers (when they are fixed )
I was thinking 1-10 & at least 30"+ long.
This will be a long range plinking rifle and as such I'm not worried about the weight & want to get max velocity.
I have a 338 Edge for hunting with 1-9 & 30 inch barrel, 2850 fps.
Cheers Greg.

My recommendation would be pretty much as you have described= a stainless barrel 30 to 34"
long, In a #7 or 8 taper or contour (Around .900 dia at the muzzle) twist should be a 1 in 10''
with the velocity you will get and a 3 to 4'' shank for strength where it is needed.

I like the 8 groove barrels for heavy bullets (Easier on the jackets when engraving).

Put a good 11 degree crown on it and the break would be optional but if you shoot a silencer
thread it for both and Enjoy.

+1 w/JE. I'm doing a 338AX with a Krieger 31" 1:10 twist #17-Heavy Varmint 1.25" for 5" then .900 at the muzzle.

My specs are close to the other suggestions. I am going with a 30" barrel 1.35" shank for 5" then tapers to .850. It will be fluted and have a brake.

Sounds to me that you already know what you want. I have a Lapua and I'm thinking of doing an improved version myself once the barrel is gone on this one. I currently have a 32" Douglas 1-10" twist on my Lapua with a .900" dia at the muzzle. The break would be a good addition mine weighs in around 20#'s and still has allot of muzzle jump. I either need to move some weight to the front of the stock or put a break on it. Happy shooting!!

I am looking for a barrel with the same specs but am having trouble finding one with a 1.350" shank. Which one are you using?? Also, do you have a tactical stock in mind?? Thanks.
