Got to shoot my new 338-300 ultra last saturday. Kevin at MCR built it .
Looks great ! I only got to shoot it 4 times once to get it on paper then a three shot group.
You can almost cover with a quarter. I thought it was pretty good for first group.
Starting low and working up a load.

Bullet---225 NAB
Primer---Fed. 215 match
Powder--98 gn. Retumbo
Cass---Remington trimed to 2.827 (for first firing)
OAL---3.740
M.V.----3125 fps

This flattened the primers.
Is this normal for the first firing
This is my first time loading for a wildcat cartrige.
No sticky bolt , no marks on cass head.

Thanks
Daryl

ramp,

I have never worked with the NAB 225 gr. I did work a little with the 250 gr. NAB and the Barnes TSX. I decided as well as the 300 SMK shot I would stick with them. You made the comment in the other post the SMK devastates deer and this has been my experience. At 440 yards it still destroyed a tremendous quanity of meat. With the 338 RUM and the 338-300 RUM being so close in performance I would feel comfortable using 338 RUM recommendations to start with. Retumbo powder may be a bit slow for 225 gr. bullets in your case. Good luck with you rifle.
