.308 Question

Is it posible to use a 700 rem. long action on a 308 ps barrel. I have an extra rem 700 action that was on a 270 and have a ps 308 barrel. Without having to spend more money on another action I'd like to use this one. Any comments would be appreciated.

...one of the smiths here could advise you correctly, but for sure you could ream to 30-06 & be good to go; might run into feeding issues with shorter 308 round, but not for sure... merry christmas to ya'... Larry

I believe that the U.S. Army sniper rifles are built that way. Should work fine.
The real gunelfs that hang out here can give you better info than me tho.

I have seen guys use 700 LA with the 308. What I dont know is if they were using them as single shots or if they were useing em as repeters. As posted already, there may be some feeding issues.

Yes you can use the action for 308. YOu have to have a 308 follower and spring for the long mag box. Also needed is a magazine filler block, to take up the space for the shorter case. I have done lots of them with short cases.
