300WSM VS 30-06 (26" barrel)

Ok, I have a 300 WSM 700SA build but after seeing my son's 06 performance with Hammers was eye opener. I have 300WM so the WSM is nice but cannot shoot heavies with 700 SA. Plus the infamous .270TH is filling in nicely with 156HH. So why wouldn't I try to trade my SA Mag for a LA to do the LR 06 build? RL26 pixie dust in 06 is crazy too. I think I already talked myself in 06. I can see a 06 with 26-27" barrel which would really be cool performance from it.

I am starting load development with a 30-06 ackley 24 inch tube and a 162 absolute hammer I have reached 3128fps with 760 ran out of case so I will be trying Big Game next pretty impressive speeds so far. If you are needing a blank I have one I am selling it will finish at 26

Get a Tikka 300 wsm, throat it out, and you'll kill it without RL26 or insane pressure

Suggestions are great but want to buddy up to my son's 06 for one very important reason. SHARED COMPONENTS!! Thinking of consolidating my cartridges to take advantage of sharing same "inventory" of components.

Anybody else have these thoughts?

Sharing components seems to be a wise move in our current environment. Many of us want something different to play with, but using existing supplies or more available components will reduce potential frustration.

Very nice. I just finished a load for a 22" 30-06 with the 151 AH. Right at 3200 fps w/VV N-550.

Adg or norma Wsm brass is about double the price of 30/06 lapua if that means anything. I'm a big fan of the 06, Probably one most versatile cartridges there is. Bullets available from 80gr-250gr. The WSM of course will give you more velocity but it won't make much of difference until you start shooting past 700-800 yards or farther.

My 06 has a 16" barrel and is great carry gun for suppressed night hunting or brush hunting in the South. I like running the 124gr hammers and 208 eldm or 215 berger for longer shots.

If I was starting out fresh with the 06 for a hunting rifle I would probably buy a tikka, have the throat lengthened and replace the bottom metal to accept AICS & MagPul 3.650" mags. Although if you just ran lighter bullets the factory set up is probably fine.

I know a 180HH hit 2900 out of his 22" ADL and hunting load is 2875. I am betting out of 27" and throated to max out the 700 LA magazine COAL which will be around 3.65 or so, velocity might top 3000 just from 5" extra barrel plus better COAL. Which is no different than my WSM SA 700 which had crummy COAL of 2.90 max. I know some LRH folks have LR 06's set up like this and it intrigues me a lot!

So if it works out like I am hoping, do we call it 06TH?

If you want a 06 which sounds like you do go for it. But a 06 cant do what the 300wsm can. And you could get rid of the 300wsm and just download your 300wm to any velocity and bullet combo that would do exactly what you could do out of any 06. In my 300wsm I have full velocity elk and bear loads, and tamer 130gr ttsx loads for deer and antelope.
