300rum Wyatt mag box modification?

So I picked up a rem 700 deluxe bdl awhile back and just started to load for it . My dumb side kicked in and I didn't measure the mag box before I found a load that works . IThe rem box is 3.710 and my loads are 3.780 col. What all needs to be modified to fit a wyatts extended box I think they have 2 options one at 3.810 and a 4.0.
Probably only need 3.810

Not sure if it's more than the bolt stop but I would go 4.0 without a second thought, who knows what bullet you might end up using or trying, would suck to do the 3.8 and then need or want the 4.0 later.

To fit a Wyatt's you need to machine the action where the mag box fits for the extra length. All of my custom REM 700's get this treatment, most run 3.850" long Wyatt's.

The 4.0 was made just for the RUM cases....plan ahead!

The 3.85 just needs the mag opening squared off and bolt stop filed, not a big deal. The 4.0 needs milled back into the action body, ejection port milled and side bolt stop installed and it won't run as nice because of so little support. I won't do them anymore, best to use an action designed for 4.0, the 3.85 is it's limit.

I use the 4.0 on the 700 action designed for the Ultra mag, mods are necessary, but well worth the effort with no issues on feeding etc. These long cases need the mods, otherwise, you are jumping the heck out of the bullets before engaging the lands, which means that you lose Peak accuracy sooner or shorter barrel life. I strive for much less than 1/2" accuracy. I use a Presto bolt stop, simple drill and tap of the action, no rocket science involved. The 4.0 is especially nice for shooting the VLD bullets where the COAL is very, very long.

Proper design on the reamer throat length and magazine box length is designed with a particular bullet in mind can give rewarding results in Load Tune and a longer usable accuracy life.

Sounds like a trip to the gunsmith. At 3.780 I'm already 50 off the lands. Good thing Axis Works is right down the street from my work.

3.825" Wyatt's box is what I went with. In hindsight, I shoulda went with the 4.00" box.
