300rum and 280 elk loads

I am taking my 300rum out and my 280 as a back up to Idaho elk hunting my 300 I dont have a load worked up yet but I have retumbo and 200gr accubonds and my 280rem I have nothing for yet. I am looking for a good load for each one as I dont have much time now and dont even have my 300 back from 308nate as he is doing some work to it. Hoping for max range out of the 280 I also have deer and bear tags for the same elk area.

200g AB's and Retumbo is a good start for your 300 RUM. WOrk your way up to around 95g which should give you 3200+fps with good accuracy.

For the .280 I would use a 160g AB. I"ve never played with one so cant recomend a powder/charge weight, but a good load should yield around 2900fps and that will kill any elk that walks to at least 600 yards.

154 Grain Interbond with RL22. The interbond expands quickly and maintains weight at 85% plus in my experience. I have found them to be very accurate and the .525 BC is excellent for that weight bullet. Max load is 58 grains(work up of coarse) and velocity is nearly 3000 fps. I feel the combination of high weight retention and high BC allow this bullet's on game performance to outperform many 160 grain bullets.

180 Barnes TSX on top of 100 grains of Retumbo. .85 at 200 yards, under 4 inches at 400 yards. Probably better than that at 400, I shot the 200, my step son shot the 400. I was tired of getting KICKED. The 100 grains is a slightly compressed load, Retumbo likes that...

210 bergers, 89.5 grains of H1000, 3025fps, WLRM primers, Nosler brass.

300 yards= 1.425"
660 yards= 2.5"
1000 yards=6"
