For those already using the 300 RUm...

How does the 208 Amax compare to the 240 SMK from the external ballistics pov, taking into consideration average speeds obtained? Or, just what speeds in a 26 " barrel are you getting with these two bullets as an average, meaning an average of the ordinarily available powders and not the fastest velocity obtained with the best suited powder?

Is it realistic to look at 3000 + for the Amax and 2900 + for the 240 SMK??

Thanks.

I would think you will get a bit more then 3000 fps with the 208.

Out to 1000 yards, likely the A-Max will shoot flatter and be very similiar in drift because of its velocity advantage over the SMK.

The 240, for its weight really does not have an overly high BC for what it could have. With modern bullet designs, such as the A-Max, there is no reason why we should not be getting +.8 BC at least with this weight bullet.

As such, because of its BC and high weight which limits velocity, the lighter bullets can perform very well in comparision out to 1000 yards at least. at longer ranges, the 240 would start to pull away more.
